How to Claim Travel Insurance While Abroad and When Needed

Travel insurance is very important and beneficial. A multitude of reasons support this claim. For instance, if you've reached the airport on time, only to find that your flight has been cancelled, travel insurance—if you have any—will help you find new flights. If you are reading this, you're lucky to be not one of those who aren't

From the Blog hammadmateenWhy does it have to take someone who is our own to make us feel the pain? US News Ranks Pakistan Among World's 20 Most Powerful Nations

From the Blog riazhaqAmerican journal US News & World Report (USNWR), known for its university rankings, has ranked Pakistan as the 20th most powerful country in the world in 2017. The United States tops the list followed by Russia at number 2 and China at number 3. Among Pakistan's neighbors, Iran ranks 14th and India 16th on the list. This latest ranking by an international publication is yet another indication of the failure of Indian leader Narendra Modi's sustained efforts to isolate Pakistan since he rose to power in 2014. *USNWR, Y&R BAV Consulting and Wharton Business School:* The US News & World Report says it developed the study and model used to score and rank countries with Y&R's BAV Consulting and The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Clarification about Ijaza

From the Blog ashrafiya *Ijaza* (permission) to initiate mureed is not synonymous with *mashikhyet* (being a Shaikh). Not all *mujazeen* are Shaikh! This is especially true for the present day young very fresh *mujaazeen* (permission holders). Both the *mujaaz* and *mureed* are confused about this. This is because of not understanding the concept of Ijaza. Hakimul al Umma Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (Allah have mercy on him) has explicitly stated that *Ijaza* is like graduation certificate. It indicates that the individual has completed the very basic course. It does not mean that this individual is a certified expert in this field. However, if continues his efforts to study further he has the capacity to excel. *Mujaazeen* these days consider Ijaza a certificate of excellence ( *mashaikhiyet*) apakistanblogs.blogspot.comRead Full PostComments

From the Loudspeakers of a Mosque

From the Blog pakteahouse *By Waseem Altaf* July 6,*2012*: Ahmadpur East On an allegation of burning the pages of the Quran,a mentally challenged man named Ghulam Abbas was arrested and brought to the police station. On that, the villagers got enraged, came out of their houses and blocked the main highway running through the town. They broke down the gates of the police station, took out the prisoner, threw petrol on him and burnt him alive. The Witch's Fire

From the Blog odysseuslahoriDecades ago I heard from soldiers of Jhelum district, especially those who lived around the hill of Tilla Jogian, that at night djinns walked around in the wilderness with lanterns. So many of the soldiers from my unit claimed to have seen those lights. No amount of lectures on science and ball lightening could make them believe anything else. Once a thick curtain, as the Vemonia creeper as it looks in June 2017 I learned of ball lightening from the Penguin science magazine that my father regularly got back in the 1960s. Why #NotInMyName protests against vigilante violence, mob lynchings in India resonate elsewhere too

From the Blog beenasarwar My piece published in The Wire today. Also posted below. [image: Not in my name-Orijit Sen] Image by graphic artist Orijit Sen. Catalysed by the mob murder of a teenager in India on June 24, followed by a Facebook post on June 24 by filmmaker Saba Dewan, a #NotInMyName campaign is taking off across India with simultaneous protests in several cities on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, against the ongoing mob lynchings and vigilante violence targeting Muslims and Dalits. [image: Junaid-India-June]The violence in India is eerily similar to what we have been seeing in Pakistan where Ahmadis, Shias and others are routinely targeted for their faith. Right wingers in India are using the country's 'beef ban' like their counterparts in Pakistan are (mis) using 'blasphemy'. Images of the bloodpakistanblogs.blogspot.comRead Full PostComments

The signs of good overcoming the evil

The results of a genetic test can confirm or rule out a suspected genetic condition or help determine a person's chance of developing or passing on a genetic disorder. Many of the risks associated with genetic testing involve the emotional, social, or financial consequences of the test results. People may feel angry, depressed, anxious, or guilty about their results. The possibility of genetic discrimination in employment or insurance is also a concern. Director's Cut

From the Blog sonyarehman *By Sonya Rehman* Local cinema is on the rise, what with the help of independent filmmakers who have brought a number of genres and stories to the big screen. While some have gone the safe, commercial route, i.e. aping formulaic Bollywood productions, others have taken the longer, albeit more offbeat and original path. Photo: Express Tribune Through local cinema's new avatar, the Pakistani identity has come to the fore. And from a sense of identity comes the emotion of a patriot. Despite being relatively new, current-day cinema has managed to instigate a dialogue with its audiences; a dialogue that questions the system, sparks inspiration for change and proactivity, gives much-needed space for the imagination, and above all, ropes the heart back to home turf. Fried Chicken Bread Rolls

From the Blog cheflingtales Every year in Ramazan, we Pakistanis promise ourselves that we won't eat fried food in Iftar. And every year, that promise is broken. All the pakora in Iftaar memes on social media are a true picture of how we feel at Iftaar time without pakoras. Carbs in any form (fattening form), fried and coated with more carbs are what I love too. Although I drink lemonade without sugar, with the fried items to make myself feel I have a healthy diet (the hypocrite that I am). One of my favorite snacks is bread rolls, and I keep adding different fillings inside to create variety. The basic is chicken bread rolls, which I make using leftover chicken from any salan (gravy). The variations can be endless as per your liking. Another easy and favorite snack of mine is chopped sausages with cheddapakistanblogs.blogspot.comRead Full PostComments

FinTech Australia Publishes Fintech Ecosystem Map – Crowdfund Insider

From the Blog faisalkhan The current map shows 119 members and financial services regulators. Fintech Australia plans to release an updated map every six months. Given that FinTech Australia represents about a quarter of all fintech companies operating in Australia, it is in fact arguable that Australia has a greater number of Fintech companies than Hong Kong and is on par with or close behind Singapore." Preface to 'Dast e Saba' by Faiz Ahmad Faiz

From the Blog hassanqadeerbuttAn era has passed since Ghalib wrote that an eye that can't see the river Tigris in a drop of water is not an eye that has sight but rather it is a children's play. If Ghalib was our contemporary, then probably one of the critics would have called out that Ghalib had insulted the children's play. Or that Ghalib appears to be a proponent of propaganda in literature. To urge a poet's eye to see Tigris in a drop is utter propaganda. His eye is only interested in beauty and if beauty is seen in a drop then it should be of no concern to the poet if the drop belongs to either Tigris or a street. To show Tigris is the job of a sage, philosopher or a politician; this not the work of a poet. The "Sufi" Bureaucrat

From the Blog pakteahouse By Waseem Altaf We as a nation are emotional people. We can be easily swayed by passion rather than wit. One problem with being emotional is that we lose the ability to critically analyze anything placed before us. Secondly, we tend to be selective in our perceptions and look at individuals in an either or mode. Our emotionalism, thus, has effectively served the interests of those who presented themselves in that vein. Qudratullah Shahab was a super bureaucrat whose company provided lot of comfort to unelected rulers of this country .We have numerous such cases who lead a full life amongst the most powerful, advise them how to rule and control the masses, how to handle potential threats and what steps are required to be taken to perpetuate their rule. The difference between trust and respect

From the Blog blog I need to get my vehicle fixed. The mechanic I know, he is skilled enough to fix my problem, but I don't trust him to deliver on those skills. So I will take business somewhere else. He is a nice guy and all, but I have work to do… There is respect for the mechanic, but not trust. Trust and credibility is a function of your integrity and your way of doing business. Respect and authority is a function of your skills. As a creative entrepreneur, I need both. I need you to 1. respect my skills to solve your problem, and 2. trust my character to deliver the product/service on time. There is a one unifying action you can take to get both. Education as Marketing To reach your potential client, you have spent time and money. What if you can use the same time and money, but pakistanblogs.blogspot.comRead Full PostComments

India Pakistan cricket #KhelneDo

From the Blog beenasarwar [image: Ind-Pk-cricket-VOR]"It's just a game" doesn't apply to any cricket match between India and Pakistan. But in recent years, fans have been stepping beyond national positions to support the other team even while rooting for their own, and to point out that yes, it is just a game. And that it's better to fight on a sports ground than the battlefield. [image: FB-Ind-Pk profile swaps]Last year, after Facebook launched a feature for the T20 World Cup allowing users to change their profile picture frame to support their favourite team, many Indian and Pakistani cricket fans swapped cricket team colours on their Facebook profile pictures in a hat tip to the #ProfileForPeace campaign catalysed by Mumbai-based ad-man Ram Subramanian. رمضان میں پھلوں کی قیمتیں کیوں بڑھ جاتی ہیں؟

Afraid of ourselves of coming across something in the dark that may feel like our own yet it may not turn out to be something acceptable to those outside in the light.
