Same Tools, New Looks Challenge (Part II)

From the Blog noorsplaceI did Same Tools, New Looks challenge back in July and today, I have the part II of the same challenge. It was so fun to create two different looks out of the same products. Since winter has just arrived and I am back to mystic + dark shades again, this look is something light with a pop of bright color. I don't use a lot of face products in my routine makeup like concealer or primer. Some shadows, mascara/eye liner and a lip tint would do fine for me. Though I do want to indulge new products to create more defined looks. The products used // Born Pretty* Store's: 1) eye pencil 2) shimmery eyeshadows 3) lip crayon 4) brush *Eyes:* I filled my eyes with cat-eye styled liner, which was quite thick than my usual liner. It makes my eyes look a bit small, but with a lot of eyeshadowpakistanblogs.blogspot.comRead Full PostComments 6371343726678539241 Pakistani Blog Posts

‘Brain drain’ — a blessing or a curse?

From the Blog beenasarwar [image: Brain drain — Blessing or curse?] My contribution to *The News on Sunday Special Report* on the ‘brain drain’ issue last week, in which I write that the urge to “give back” drives many diaspora professionals to help out in the home country in various ways, as well as to play a positive ambassadorial role, asserting an identity that counters stereotypes. However, the conditions that drive educated, qualified Pakistanis abroad are unlikely to change anytime soon. For the foreseeable future, Pakistan’s brain drain will remain a blessing, arising from a curse. In 1983, right after we married, Shabnam and I lived in the ground floor of 77-A, PECHS Block 6 near Chanesar Halt. About a year after moving in we began to be bothered by the front door latch suddenly going ‘clack’ as if someone had snapped it down and sharply released it. Visibility in Payments

From the Blog faisalkhan In the world of money transfer, I am always trying to explain to startups what it would take have a better understanding on transactions data points for cross-border transfers, i.e. visibility in payments. As part of any compliance program, it is extremely important to grasp how much visibility a company has into its transaction. Furthermore, I’m also curious to know if this visibility (read: data points) are shared with *its* transaction partners like banks, processors, etc. If you’re curious to know what are these data-points, have a look at these data points that used in a cross-border money transfer transaction. So I devised my own way of classifying how much visibility an entity has into a transaction, and to make it easy, I reference them with “D” i.e. dimensions. Not to mention, that personally I do not believe in these man-made divisions.* Today, I will be talking about the fact, that intrinsically, the Creator has made a Woman much stronger than a man, only a lot many of us not realize it. زلزلے کے بعد کی ابتر صورتحال

From the Blog pakteahouse کpakistanblogs.blogspot.comRead Full PostComments 4406566117276975602 Pakistani Blog Posts

Palestine: Revolt of the Oppressed

From the Blog iabhopal Where should we go after the last frontier? Where should the birds fly after the last sky? – Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish The Palestinians have once again taken to the streets. And it is not merely the wrath of the young stone-throwers that Israel faces today. The entire Palestinian society seems to have revolted, like never before. Men and women, young and old – all are taking on the might of the most ruthless apartheid regime the world has ever seen, with whatever they have got. With stones, kitchen knives and at times with their bare hands and vulnerable bodies. For the first time, young girls are part of these extraordinary protests. Last week, an AFP report noted how manicured fingers and hennaed hands are wielding stones to defend themselves and their homeland. The Loneliest Places in Pakistan

From the Blog odysseuslahoriI suppose it is natural to feel an overwhelming sense of isolation in a particular remote and unpopulated place. I have also heard that a sense of dread overcomes folks in lonely places. I have a different feeling, however. Lonely, isolated place do things to me. My imagination goes into overdrive and I begin to perceive things that I wouldn’t anywhere else. Shuwert on the Central Asiatic side of the Great Asiatic Divide In those early years of travelling after I left the army and lived in Karachi, I went alone. In 1979, along the Malir River, about sixteen kilometres upstream of Super Highway, I got my first taste of real solitude. Having left the highway, I had not seen a single soul en route. October Update

From the Blog ummeyusufI have no pictures of any wonderful FO (finished object) yet, but my knitting has picked up speed lately. I started this month with a dress for my daughter. Fingering weight yarn on 3.25 mm needles, made ten days of knitting equivalent to this: At that point, I decided to take a break and start something else. Almost-worsted weight yarn on 5 mm needles made a for much faster knitting and this sweater has come this far over a few days: I have finished the sleeves since I took that photo and hopefully there will be a FO within a day or two, insha Allah. Which means, it is time to pick my next thicker yarn project, to knit alongside the toddler dress. pakistanblogs.blogspot.comRead Full PostComments 3230109948408651242 Pakistani Blog Posts

What has General Raheel Sharif Changed?

From the Blog pakteahouse *By Umair Arif* [image: raheel sharif2] Imran Khan recently tweeted that the “popularity level of Gen Raheel Sharif is touching skies”. Even though this is true but I am one of the many who are not easily convinced by the superficial displays of patriotism, songs, signboards or statements, which determine ‘popularity’ of political and military “celebrities”. I would rather discuss the serious issues like policies designed to resolve the chronic problems of the country. While Gen Raheel has shown lots of determination, I must say that, I don’t find his approach different from his predecessors (Kiyani and Musharraf ). It is true that due to Gen Raheel’s resolve extortion and target killings have gone down in Karachi. At first I was going to title it "New York City, New York" but that would've been mildly misleading in the sense that we only spent 24 hours in New York and that I have literally no pictures of New York. No decent ones. At all. But anyway. We went to Washington DC and visited the National Museum of Natural History. I've been there before but it seems they keep changing it. Random other buildings that look super cool. Geology! Yay! A rainbow of minerals! Egyptian stuff! More Egyptian stuff! Camels! Kanra trying to be photographic! There are times when I wish I had lots of money

From the Blog jehanara Money has never meant too much to me. Of course all of us need a certain amount to live but I have never yearned for too much of it. As my father used to say: No matter how *much* money you have, you can only eat 3 meals a day and sleep in one bed at a time. These days you also need some form of transport, a mobile phone and a couple of gadgets … but that's it! My parents came from middle class families and they worked hard to bring up 5 kids. As we were growing up, I remember that our home was modest. We ate simple food and wore simple clothes. My mother was a woman who was easily content. She never made any demands. She was happy as long as she had her family around her. Both my parents worked extremely hard to make sure we had a happy childhood and a comfortable life. It's such an easy subject, but I feel like giving it more attention (even when I'm going pretty low in Accounting, ahem ahem!). My current photography adventure is focusing the skies. I am in awe of the beauty of the fall skies. I wonder why I never took notice of them before. Like, I had always admired skies, but focusing them as a subject of a project, it hadn't crossed my mind. The pictures below are the one I took in the past week or earlier. The best time to capture the sky is at the twilight; when the sun isn't shining brightly and different hues are formed around it. Young innovators are what Pakistan is about

From the Blog jehanara Most people around the world see Pakistan very differently from the way that you and I (Pakistanis) do, and from the way it *actually* is – maybe because they have never been here; maybe because they believe the myopic coverage on mainstream media; maybe because they have never met the hundreds of thousands of amazing people from Pakistan who are striving to make the world a better place. I strongly believe that we should talk about these people, ensure that others know who they are and what they are doing. Some of them are working on mass philanthropic efforts; yet others are working towards improving the economy on a broader scale … and then there are the young ones who are breaking all stereotypes and working on the cutting edge of technology.
