Fear of Uncertainty

We watch movies with happy endings more than tragedies, labeling them as too burdensome to watch.Yet some way or the other, in every ten films we watch, one of them does have an either tragic or open-ended conclusion, leaving the person's imagination to itself to draw conclusions. Perhaps that is why we prefer stories that end happily, because life, as uncertain as it is, gives no guarantee that your own story will end similarly. And perhaps that, too is the reason that the stories with tragic or open-ended conclusions stick with us the most. We mourn the death of characters, purely fictional.
