CPEC: What is in it for China?
From the Blog pkhope China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a $46 billion project that comprises of a network of roads, railways and pipelines that would connect the strategically located Gwadar overlooking the Strait of Hormuz with the restive province of China, Xinjiang. The project was formally launched by President Xi-Jingping on his visit to Pakistan in 2015, and was welcomed with great euphoria. CPEC would tie the economies of the developing Pakistan with economic giant China; while the benefits of construction of the economic corridor linking Gwadar and Kashgar through a network of roads, railways and pipelines would be predominantly economic, however, geostrategic dimensions as a consequence of the construction of CPEC cannot be ignored.
