Haul // Karachi International Book Fair

From the Blog noorsplaceOn Saturday, I went to *Karachi International Book Fair #KIBF*. Well, I wrote it like this to make it look cool. In easier words, I attended an amazing book fair that's happening in city right now. Book fairs are awesome. There are so many books and papers and stationery and most importantly, people who actually care about reading. Isn't it getting unusual these day? Sadly, yes. I woke up pretty late following morning. 12 PM. But that's the beauty of holidays so I'll just leave it. We were in dilemma whether to go on Sat or wait till last day. But last days at fairs are crowdy. The only thing standing between the 2000 children enrolled in the local Government High School Ibrahimzai in Hangu and a suicide bomber sent to kill them was the courage of this teenager. The Lashkar-e-Jhangvi has claimed responsibility for this attack which targeted a school in a Shia majority area of Hangu. The LeJ has a history of targeting members of the Shia community in Pakistan and have been behind some of the most violent and deadly attacks against Shias. This attack, foiled by the sacrifice of Aitzaz, is a sobering reminder that the beast we fight has no morals or principles. Our enemy will stoop to even attacking a school full of children. Tomorrow

From the Blog faysy I was coming back from a movie today when I got stuck in traffic at Boat Basin. I looked out and I saw a flaming object in the sky. I freaked and the natural response, "It's a bird, no it's a crashing plane, no it's Superman!" flashed through my mind. Panicking, I turned to my space cadet (pun intended) cousin sitting behind me and brought it to her attention. "Oh, Faysal bhai, that's just a lantern they've lit for the Peshawar incident." Relieved, I watched as the lantern quickly ran out of fuel and crashed. The symbolism for our own reactionary emotions after such horrendous incidents was glaring. See, after the incident, Facebook was filled with posts of people changing their display pictures to all black in mourning. I did not.
