Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and Ministry of Science At Odds Again Over Moonsighting
From the Blog propakistani The two federal ministries – Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Science and Technology – have locked heads once again over the start of upcoming Hijri month. The conflict has been stirring up every month since the launch of the scientific lunar calendar by the ministry in May this year. Before that, the central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was solely responsible for deciding the beginning of Hijri months based on the sighting of the moon. Though the lunar calendar successfully predicted Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha, it allegedly failed to suggest the beginning of Zil Qaad and now Safar.
