Why are Pakistan Poor Chasers?
From the Blog pakteahouse By Amaar Ahmad: Blame it on one plausible explanation: They simply do not want to run between wickets. They seem to want to run scores through hitting boundaries only. Given a choice to score 4 runs as <0,0,0,4> (3 dots and a boundary) versus <1,1,1,1> (four singles), Pakistani batsmen would prefer the former. Clearly <0,0,0,4> breeds rash stroke play and more mental tension. This is why they cannot chase even as Ireland. And this is why they suffer atrocious run outs more than other teams. Take the current lot: Younis Khan, Ahmed Shahzad, Afridi, Umar Akmal and Misbah. They all suffer from a <0,0,0,4> syndrome. Except for Fawad Alam who is an accumulator (i.e. <1,1,1,1>) most would rather be stroke players. This creates a vicious cycle.
