Breaking the Political Impasse
From the Blog pkhope The stark reality is that the federal capital, Islamabad, is virtually under siege due to the sit-ins of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek. It’s now more than a month that the sit-ins began but the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz)’s government has not succeeded in resolving the crisis. It is wary of getting the sit-ins vacated through use of necessary force, fearing that any such action would lead to bloodshed and provide justification to the army for intervention. Simultaneously it considers the demand of PTI and PAT for the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as non-negotiable. Both PTI and PAT accuse the PML (N) of having rigged the general elections of May 2013 and assert that the PML (N) governments at the center and in Punjab lack legitimacy.
