A Distortion of History?

From the Blog pakteahouse By Umair Tariq Recently I came across an essay written by renowned historian William Dalrymple – best known in Pakistan for his famous work 'The Last Mughal' – examining the current Afghanistan situation within a historical context. Reading the essay pained me greatly for it was like looking at a burlesque fantasy where the author conveniently distorted facts and mingled them with his love for the Indian establishment and Hamid Karzai. The essay – if not completely then partially—is murder of historical accounts and acute distortion of facts that quite unworthy of a reputable international historian like Dalrymple. Dalrymple grossly misinterpreted history and twisted it in favor of Hamid Karzai, all the while overlooking the drastic mismanagement, corruption and acute embezzpakistanblogs.blogspot.comRead Full PostComments

شاہد آفریدی کی نظریں اب 400 وکٹوں پر

From the Blog cricnamaشاہد آفریدی کا شمار دنیا کے ان خوش قسمت ترین کھلاڑیوں میں ہوتا ہے، جن پر جب بھی برا وقت آیا، قسمت اچانک ان پر اتنی مہربان ہوئی کہ وہ ایک مرتبہ پھر دنیائے کرکٹ کے آسمان پر ستارہ بن کر چمکنے لگے۔ کچھ ایسا ہی معاملہ حالیہ دورۂ ویسٹ انڈیز میں ہوا جہاں انہوں نے شاندار کارکردگی کے ذریعے ٹیم کی فتوحات میں اہم کردار ادا کیا۔ یوں وہ شاہد آفریدی جن کے بین الاقوامی کرکٹ کیریئر پر سوال ثبت ہوگیا تھا، نہ صرف ایک مرتبہ پھر خبروں میں ہیں بلکہ قوم سمیت سابق کرکٹرز تک نے ایک مرتبہ پھر ان سے قوی امیدیں باندھ لی ہیں۔ اس کا اندازہ خود شاہد آفریدی کو بھی ہے اور بدھ کی صبح ویسٹ انڈیز سے وطن واپس پہنچنے پر انہوں نے ہوا کا رخ دیکھتے ہوئے اپنی نئی خواہش کا اظہار بھی کردیا ہے، جو اپنی جگہ ایک تمنا تو ہے ہی لیکن ساتھ میں آئندہ کافی عرصے تک کرکٹ جاری رکھنے کا عندیہ بھی ہے۔ کراچی ایئرپورٹ پر صحافیوں سے گفتگوpakistanblogs.blogspot.comRead Full PostComments

یاد رکھنے کی باتیں

From the Blog theajmals

Fighting For Justice

From the Blog iabhopal "On the next date of hearing, the procedure of challan and prosecution will start against the brigadier who was involved in the disappearance of Masood Janjua". Thus spake Justice Khawaja on July 9, 2013 while hearing the case about my husband's disappearance. It was indeed a breakthrough that the witness statement was eventually honoured; the case has been going on since 2005. Through all the political upheavals of Pakistan, Masood's case has remained in the limelight, since it was the starting point of a great judicial revolution which brought about historical changes. It is at the top of the list of thousands of cases of those who were 'disappeared' in the wake of 9/11. It is also one of the greatest love stories of a Pakistan struck by the 'war-on-terror' – a tale of how tpakistanblogs.blogspot.comRead Full PostComments
