This visceral response determines many of the choices we make, people we like and ideologies we subscribe to. It appears that most of us are only as inclined or disinclined as these first ten seconds allow us to be – often without much 'active' participation from our side. And on many things that matter, our responses are based on a yuck factor – an intense repugnance that we quite often couldn't defend in rational terms. If this were a one-person world, it would be just fine to be repugnant at this and derisive at that, and go about our lonely business. And not too soon, as hope was evaporating that the two nations might have, at long last, realised the futility of prolonged confrontation and might therefore give peace a chance. There is no getting around the fact that the two neighbours consider each other arch enemies. This antagonism is not only on a state-to-state level.
