From the Blog ProPakistani: Oracle Contributes USD 400,000 for Flood Relief - Oracle Contributes USD 400,000 for Flood Relief is a post from: ProPakistani Oracle and its employees with Oracle's Matching Gifts program have raised $398,920 USD to support victims of recent floods in Pakistan. The employee donations and the company match will go to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), which is currently delivering aid to flood victims. "The monsoon flooding was truly devastating for millions of Pakistani families," said M Ahsen Javed, Managing Director, Oracle Pakistan and South Asia Growth Economies – West. "At Oracle, we are committed to being a vital, contributing partner to the world community and addressing community need. I am tremendously proud of how the company and our employees have joined together to support the IFRC and assist the victims of this natural disaster." Pakistan's severe monsoon flooding affected more than 20 million people. Thousands have been killed or injured and millions are in need of food, clean drinking water, and medical care. The IFRC is the world's largest humanitarian organization, with 186 member National Societies. Disaster response is the largest part of the IFRC's work and they provide assistance to over 30 million victims of disasters annually. PTCL expect growth with launch of IMEWE

India-Middle East-Western Europe cable will allow PTCL to increase in international traffic through PTCL which may lead to grow in traffic by 20 percent. The official said that due to video, offshore applications, call centres bandwidth penetration has be increased since last few years which results in need of acquire higher bandwidth. The other partners of the consortium are Bharti Airtel (India), Etisalat (UAE), France Telecom-Orange (France), OGERO (Lebanon), Saudi Telecom Company STC,(Saudi Arabia), Telecom Egypt (Egypt), Telecom Italia Sparkle (Italy), and Tata Communications (India). " Being part of the IMEWE consortium, the company invested over $52 million in this project out of total investment of $480 million ,".  PTCL has experiencing high increase in bandwidth penetration and feel that existing network (smw3 and smw4) can not compete with this race so in December 2006 PTCL has singed MoU with IMEWE consortium membership. After the membership, PTCL become the only telecommunication carrier in Pakistan to offer combination of three submarine cables namely SMW3, SMW4 and IMEWE with redundant capability. IMEWE features are Triple bandwidth capacity at lower unit. Ultra high capacity fibre optic submarine cable system. links India & Europe via Middle East. 3 fibre pair system with total length of 12,091km and 09 terminal stations for all countries of consortium. Capacity of 3.84 Tera bits per second. IMEWE also help PTCL to decrease the number of complaints for slow in service or low bandwidth. . Read Full PostComments
