Drifting away

Although I don't feel anything but the fact that I'm drifting away from humanity kind of pricks me. We read tragic stories every day & a time comes when we become numb. I don't protest how I used to protest. I was quite passionate about the whole thing, but I came across certain photos & info, & I don't want to go into details but I had a feeling that I was fighting for the wrong kind of people. Of course there are few innocent folks, & when you go around digging, sometimes you encounter truth in its raw form. When I tried to have discussion about it with my pals, it was actually no big deal. Sometimes it's no use having discussions, you have to find out the answers yourself. I do have a couple of questions, but I haven't got any answer as yet. Maybe it will take time. I think a person dies when he/she doesn't feel anything. We have plenty of corpses around us & I don't want to join that club…at least not in this lifetime. However, sometimes we have no choice, cause things happen. . Read Full PostComments

PTA Exposes its Inability to Count Actual Number of Cellular Subscribers in Pakistan

From the Blog ProPakistani: PTA Exposes its Inability to Count Actual Number of Cellular Subscribers in Pakistan - PTA Exposes its Inability to Count Actual Number of Cellular Subscribers in Pakistan is a post from: ProPakistani PTA doesn't know a bit about the exact count of cellular subscribers in the country, claims a story produced in Dawn today. Paper explains that declared figure of 100.1 million subscribers in the country is not correct as PTA doesn't maintain a count of in-active subscribers while millions of other subscribers carry multiple sims with them. Let's have a look at selected excepts from Dawn's story "Since a large number of subscribers have more than one SIM, their actual number in Pakistan is not more than 60 to 65 million," an official of a telecom operator said. This is not a hidden fact now that actual subscribers are far lesser than the numbers quoted by PTA, by 40 percent as per estimates. This was first revealed by a report published by Daily Jang in 2008 . In a report produced by ProPakistani (in February 2010), it was further revealed that actual subscribers in Pakistan were 64 million as compared to 97.3 million declared subscribers by PTA . Moreover, as a matter of fact, it is technically impossible to have 100 million subscribers in Pakistan with 79 million CNIC holders . Dawn further writes: According to a PTA spokesman, there are no international norms to record multiple SIMs being used by the users therefore the PTA records no such data. With regard to "inactive subscriber data", he says it does not record any such data. He says 100.1 million subscribers (Sept 2010) are based on the actual data received from the cellular operators. He further says since the implementation of active subscriber definition, the PTA believes all figures reported by the operators are based strictly on that. Our commentary on such a response from PTA is as following: PTA is either miscommunicating or they are ignorant of the fact that they can have an exact figure of actual subscribers. This is possible by running a simple DB (database) query on 668″> records . It gonna tell them total number of CNICs (or the subscribers) registered with all the operators. (ask me in comments if anyone needs further explanation of this point) If PTA isn't monitoring the "in-active subscribers" and is totally relying on cellular companies, one may wonder how good are the reports produced by operators. One may question the PTA's sluggishness and inability to counter-check the head count sent by operators. If PTA isn't monitoring the cellular companies, public has a right to question the audit of license fee (millions of dollars) they are collecting. face the facts & stop the torture!

From the Blog Speak Your Mind!!!: Rabbit fur: face the facts & stop the torture! - The killing of rabbits for their fur is the fastest growing part of the global fur trade, yet little is known about it. 50 million animals are slaughtered worldwide each year for their fur but this figure does not even include rabbits as accurate figures are hard to come by. Around the world most systems of animal factory farming – such as battery hen cages, foie gras production, mink fur farming – have been the subject of detailed scientific studies, campaigns by animal rights groups and even government bans. Meanwhile, the factory farming of rabbits for their fur and flesh has received little attention …. until now. The Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade (CAFT) have infiltrated and exposed this hideous trade. A trade where millions of rabbits are confined to bare wire cages, kept as breeding machines, their throats slit and their furs turned into boots, hats, gloves and trim for jackets. Slaughter methods observed by CAFT investigators at European rabbit farms varied. Some animals were killed on the farm by being hit over the back of the head with a heavy stick before having their throats slit. Commercial slaughterhouses stunned the rabbits with electrical devices and again slit their throats. At one slaughterhouse filmed by CAFT, at which 9,000 rabbits were killed each day, rabbits were held in crates piled eight high in view of those being slaughtered. Covered in faeces and urine from rabbits in crates above them, some were clearly still alive as they bled to death. The rabbit mother who has her babies taken away from her at four weeks is not concerned about why all this happens to her and her young, only that it does happen. She is not concerned about whether her babies are turned into a pair of gloves or somebody’s dinner; she is just concerned that her babies are taken away from her and that she is imprisoned in a cage that doesn’t allow her to do all that comes naturally to a rabbit – to feel the sun on her back, to run and hop.
