On Hate Speech and Hate Crimes in Pakistan

(National Action Plan, Pakistan)* In the wake of the Peshawar massacre, the most important trend that has emerged in the Pakistani public sphere is the focus, both by the government and the civil society, on the hitherto unimpeded hate speech. Even though compared to the destructive power of terrorists, creating some laws that claim to monitor hate speech and prosecute hate crimes seems like a staid and rather tame response, having such laws on record is extremely crucial to the future of Pakistan as a progressive and tolerant nation. From the Blog qalamkarwan [image: dua]ہر واقعے، یا حادثے میں مختلف افراد پر پڑنے والے اثرات بھی جدا ہوتے ہیں اور ردّ عمل بھی الگ کرتے ہیں! کچھ کی بھوک اڑ جاتی ہے کچھ کی بھوک ٹینشن میں بڑھ جاتی ہے، کسی کی نیند اڑجاتی ہے تو کسی پر سکینت طاری ہوجاتی ہے! کوئی قنوطیت کا شکار ہوجاتا ہے تو کوئی امیدوں کا کنول کھلا بیٹھتا ہے۔ کاش میں سولہ دسمبر کا جنگ اخبارنہ دیکھتی۔ جس کے ایک طرف تو سقوط ڈھاکہ کے عنوان سے دورسمی مضامین تھے جبکہ دوسری طرف بھارتی اداکار عامر خان کا مکمل صفحے کا انٹرویو! تر جیحات کا تعین نفاق کو واضح کرتا ہے۔ پھر اسی دن وہ المناک واقعہ پیش آیا جس نے پوری قوم کو ایک دم سکتہ اور پھر صدمے میں مبتلا کردیا ۔اس سانحے کی رپورٹ کے فوراً بعد موسیقی کی تانیں ، ڈراموں کی باز گشت، اشتہارات کی دھنیں دل کو مزید غمگین کر رہی تھیں ۔نوحے اور ماتم کے بعد وہی روٹین کے پروگرامز! تلاوت قرآن اور دعائیں کہیں بھی نہ تpakistanblogs.blogspot.comRead Full Post
