Pakistan International Mountain Film Festival

From the Blog odysseuslahoriFilm Festival Hassan Karrar, is thin as a rail, stands six and a half feet tall and teaches history at LUMS. He walks with a long step and is known in Baltistan as ‘lumbi tango walla’ – long-legged man. At Pakistan International Mountain Film Festival he and I talked of the philosophy of mountaineering and the question of ‘conquering’ peaks. First things first. No one conquers peaks. We conquer enemies; not peaks. The only thing anyone has ever conquered attempting a summit is their own fears. That’s all. Second thing: I’m no mountaineer. I am just a mountain walker. Though I have been up to 5700 metres (18700 feet) on Lukpe La, all the peaks I have climbed are walking peaks. But the bottom line is anyone who ventures out into Nature does not go there to conquer either Nature pakistanblogs.blogspot.comRead Full PostComments

The Week in Review #24: Forgetting Super Chickens at Work

From the Blog usmansheikh As entrepreneurs, a large majority of us aspire to be superstars. It starts when we enter school and the teacher gives out stars to the best students. The cycle repeats itself endlessly as we move up the ladder. In our quest to reach the top, collateral damage is a necessary evil. We delude ourselves into thinking that this is the only way to reach the success we desire. However nothing could be further from the truth. These isolated examples of success cloak the larger picture. Research has shown, superstar status achieved at all cost is transient in nature.* It is only when we focus on bringing out the best in others, is when we find the best in ourselves. *This advice is contrarian to most that is given to ambitious entrepreneurs and individuals.
