Remembering Doc: The importance of civil discourse and the art of listening
From the Blog beenasarwar At a small gathering last year, our friend S. Ali Jafari read his essay in Urdu about my father, whom he called "Doc". His son Salman videotaped the reading, which forms the basis of this 14-minute video I edited for 26 May 2019, ten years after Dr M. Sarwar passed away peacefully at home in Karachi, at age 79. Son of the famous satirical poet S. M. Jafari, Ali Jafari's essay in chaste Urdu humorously captures the spirit and idealism of progressive politics. It also contains critical observations about the art of listening, and conversing with civility, respect and humour without making personal attacks, regardless of differences in opinion. From the Blog ranaii-e-khayal مدحتِ رسول ﷺ ایک توجہ طلب پہلو ہمارے ہاں رکشے والوں کے پاس آڈیو پلئر ہونا ایک بڑی پرانی روایت ہے جسے وہ بڑی بے دردی سے اب تک برقرار رکھے ہوئے ہیں۔ پہلے آڈیو سننے کے لئے کیسٹ پلئرز استعمال ہوتے تھے لیکن اب تو بس چھوٹے سے ایم پی تھری پلئر سے یو ایس بی منسلک کرنے کی دیر ہوتی ہے اور بعض لوگ تو اپنے موبائل کو بھی پلئر سے جوڑ کر سنںنے سُنانے کا "فریضہ" انجام دیتے ہیں۔ خیر ، کل صبح کی بات ہے کہ ہم راستے میں کہیں جا رہے تھے کہ کہیں سے ایک نغمے کی صدا کان میں پڑی ، اور ہم نے چونکہ ایک مدت ، ہندوستانی اردو موسیقی کو تضیع اوقات کے لئے خاص نشانہ بنائے رکھا ہے ،اس مصرع کو فوراً پکڑ لیا اور آگے سے لقمہ بھی دے دیا۔ لقمہ کیا دیا بلکہ ساتھ ساتھ گنگنانے لگے۔ یہ کافی مشہور و معروف نغمہ تھا۔ میرے محبوب قیامت ہو گی آج رُسوا تیری گلیوں میں محبت ہوگی لیکن جیسے ہی گنگناتا رکشہ ہمارے قریب پہنچا تو ہpakistanblogs.blogspot.comRead Full Post
