Kesariya Stupa: Where Buddha Had Stayed
From the Blog iamzeeshanI often marvel at the richness of subcontinent with regards to culture and history. The heritage that all of us, the dwellers of this historic land have inherited is full of splendor. I happened to visit one of the pieces of this widespread heritage during my visit to India, in 2014. The Buddhist stupa that I visited is located in Kesariya, which is a town in the East Champaran district of Bihar, India. The stupa, known as ‘Kesariya Stupa’ is a sight to behold. This 104 ft. tall monument, with a circumference of about 1400 ft. stands alone in the wilderness. While, not in the best of conditions (I was told that the systematic restoration work will soon begin), and not completely excavated, the site held a certain charm that I cannot truly describe.
