Obama and Mandela's Legacies

From the Blog iabhopal When ideas fail, said Goethe, words come in handy. As speeches go, President Obama's tribute at Nelson Mandela's memorial last week may easily have been one of his best. That it was read from a script seemed to make no difference to the awesome power of his magical words or performance. It was such a refreshing change from the pedantic verbosity of President Jacob Zuma, the host, and other world leaders. No politician has ever benefited from the power of words as Obama has. Indeed, if America, and the world, fell in love with the man with an unusual name and even more unusual background, much of the credit goes to his formidable oratorical skills. From the Blog ranaii-e-khayal غزل غبارِ طبع میں تھوڑی بہت کمی ہو جائے تمھارا نام بھی سُن لوں تو روشنی ہو جائے ذرا خیال کرو، وقت کس قدر کم ہے میں جو قدم بھی اُٹھا لوں ، وہ آخری ہو جائے قیامتیں تو ہمیشہ گزرتی رہتی ہیں عذاب اُس کے لئے جس کو آگہی ہو جائے گزر رہے ہیں مرے رات دن لڑائی میں میں سوچتا ہوں کہ مجھ کو شکست ہی ہو جائے عجیب شخص ہے تبدیل ہی نہیں ہوتا جو اُس کے ساتھ رہے چند دن وہی ہو جائے مرا نصیب کنارہ ہو یا سمندر ہو جو ہو گئی ہے، تو لہروں سے دشمنی ہو جائے تمام عمر تو دوری میں کٹ گئی میری نہ جانے کیا ہو؟ اگر اس سے دوستی ہو جائے بس ایک وقت میں ساری بلائیں ٹوٹ پڑیں اگر سفر یہ کٹھن ہے تو رات بھی ہو جائے میں سو نہ جاؤں جو آسانیاں میسر ہوں میں مر نہ جاؤں اگر ختم تشنگی ہو جائے نہیں ضرور کہ اونچی ہو آسمانوں سے یہی بہت ہے زمیں پاؤں پر کھڑی ہو جائے تمام عمر سمٹ آئے ایک لمحے میں میں چاہتا ہوں کہ ہونا ہے جو ابھی pakistanblogs.blogspot.comRead Full PostComments
