10 Years of Ufone in Pakistan
From the Blog State of Telecom Industry in Pakistan: 10 Years of Ufone in Pakistan - Back in 2001 it was hard to tell where would the Pakistan telecom industry would be after a few years. It was the time when Ufone, a subsidiary of PTCL, was launched. There was no Zong, no Telenor and no Warid. The field was wide open to compete and to change the game. Despite a few missed opportunities, Ufone steadily improved its business. Congratulations to Ufone for achieving this milestone. Below is the press release from Ufone. Surprisingly, it lacks many of the numbers which should have been shared. Ufone celebrated its 10th anniversary on 29th January with great fervor. This day is memorable for all as 10 years ago the launch of Ufone was the dawn of a revolution within the telecom industry. Ufone started out as a service for the masses and it pushed to remove the perception and reality that cellular services were only for the elite in the country. Today cellular services are enjoyed by people from every walk of life which has been made a reality thanks to the promise that Ufone once made to the people of Pakistan and has fulfilled that promise through this journey of 10 years. Over the last decade the telecom industry has seen fierce competition with an exceptional decrease in tariffs, a major focus on value added and customer services in which Ufone has taken the lead. Ufone has shown vast growth and endurance throughout, even though with the intense competition; the organization has shown great reverence with its increase in revenue and has always remained profitable. In 2009 -2010 Ufone led the market with the highest revenue growth in cellular industry (source PTA). Over the last few years the world has witnessed one of the worst global recessions during which downsizing was one of the major cost cutting techniques used by organizations, On the other hand Ufone stood out by not following the trend and instead motivated and acknowledged its employees by giving more financial benefits and focused on growth in all business areas with a major focus on corporate social responsibility and has always come out to help the people of Pakistan through testing times. Mr Abdul Aziz CEO Ufone speaking at this auspicious occasion said: This is indeed an emotional moment for me as 10 years ago I was part of a very small but highly committed and focused group of individuals who helped start Ufone. "We stand tall today in the market because of our incredible service orientation, and a great team spirit that did not fade out due to time; it only grew stronger. From the day that we launched till now, we as an organization value the essence of our corporate mission and vision of Becoming the Best Cellular Option Available for U!". Ufone has surely come a long way and today is one of the most aggressive and competitive telecom companies in the country. I would like to thank our family of more than 20 million customers our strategic partners and thousands of Ufone employees around the country for helping make Ufone the driving force that it is today. I would like to add, for Ufone "Success is a journey, not a destination!" . Read Full Post
Mockery Of Respect
From the Blog Speak Your Mind!!!: Mockery Of Respect - We are generally taught to respect the elders whom we meet all our lives starting from our parents to the elderly in the family and anybody else that falls in that category. Respect is a word that we also associate with very important characters in our society…those who are our teachers, professors and mentors as they are the ones who guide us in life. Today I came across a not so impressive story. In Gulberg Lahore, a girl lost her credit card in the school where she taught. Her father, however, said that the bank notified extremely irregular activity. Interesting thing was that her credit card was found by another teacher at the same school and what an amazing example did she set for the rest of the world. That woman went on to have a good time. Apparently, she went on a shopping spree that lasted for about 7 hours in which she spent about Rs. 100,000 on that credit card. She bought a laptop also on the credit card. By 9 pm, the card started declining transactions. As per a CCTV footage, the woman was also found a recorded tape using the stolen credit card. And of course, she has been caught after such reckless behavior. I don’t know what do such people think when they go out on such cheap ventures and do they ever think of what would others who know them would think of. In this saddening case, the students will have a good laugh at their instructor who turned out to be a stupid thief and rightly so because such people hardly deserve the respect. Such people make a mockery of respect itself. . Read Full Post
Ashamed to approach court
From the Blog That's Wrong!: Ashamed to approach court - Victim : A 17-year-old girl whose mother is dead and father is a lunatic. She is the elder most sibling of 6 sisters. She was abducted from her house and gangraped by four people for many days. An orgy awaited her in every house she was kept in. Her captors sought sexual favours not only for their friends but also for their servants. She had no option except to comply. My client : I was approached by the girl's uncle to represent the girl in the court. I only charged them a token fee, considering the extreme poverty and pitiable background of the girl. The uncle, who is a primary school teacher, visited me in my office. He was very nervous. After exchanging social pleasanteries, he nervously asked. Is going to the court considered to be a shamless act? There is no more shame left for your family, I replied. Apparently, someone has told him that rape victims are asked very nasty and vulgur questions in the courts. Which, ironically, is true to some extent. . Read Full Post
