Can We Save It?

From the Blog Beenish's Blahs…: Can We Save It? - If you had the chance to save money, create more jobs, reduce pollution, save trees, and help in decreasing energy consumption, would you not? If the answer to that is 'yes', the solution is very simple but requires commitment. But if your answer is 'why do I care?' then stop reading this post now. So how would you achieve all these without spending an extra buck? Simple! Through RECYCLING! "Paper recycling is the process of recovering waste paper and remaking it into new paper products. 90% of paper pulp is made of wood and wood comes through cutting trees. By recycling one ton of paper saves one ton of wood, you will be saving about 35% of solid waste which is caused by paper and paper products. As per EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency) recycling will result in 35% less water pollution and 74% less air pollution as compared to making virgin paper." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_recycling There are many more benefits of recycling: The energy we save when we recycle one glass bottle is enough to light a light bulb for four hours. Recycling conserves natural resources, such as timber, water, and minerals. Every bit of recycling makes a difference. For example, one year of recycling on just one college campus, Stanford University, saved the equivalent of 33,913 trees and the need for 636 tons of iron ore, coal, and limestone. Recycling creates 1.1 million U.S. jobs, $236 billion in gross annual sales and $37 billion in annual payrolls. http://www.recycling-revolution.com/recycling-benefits.html Still not convinced you can read the long list of benefits on the website given above. Think about it? Wouldn't you want to help? Now the question is how? There are a number of ways some which I am listing below: If one of the organizations in Pakistan sets up a recycling plant or a center we could really benefit. Just like international recycling centers, every university, school, office, home can collect their waste paper, newspapers, used papers, or discarded papers put them into cartons and give them to the recycling center. Imagine if every city can contribute to recycling paper like this the positive impact on the environment will be HUGE! I can understand that the cost of setting up a plant would be tremendously high. However the long term benefits definitely would overtake the setup cost. And if we have a reliable organization who is ready to make this investment maybe we can all contribute a little bit by giving some donation. I know and believe people in Pakistan are very big hearted and they go out of the way to help the country when there is a need. Rs. 10 every month from even half the population will result in 850 million rupees. And I am sure if an organization in Pakistan is ready to take the step then our people will all contribute. Print less, do more work online. If needed print on both sides for drafts. Reuse envelops for internal office communication. Take your own paper bags, tote bags, plastic bags from home to get your groceries, or shopping items. This way you are saving the use of new bags, plastic or paper, from the shops. Reuse plastic bottles and containers for some time to store food or drinks. Reuse boxes to store supplies and stationary at home. Reuse partially empty paper to write messages or notes. Make cards or book marks out of used chart paper or slightly used paper Use old newspapers for packing Read many more ideas at So would you give in your bit to help save this planet? Or would you want to sit and watch while we destroy our climate, our planet, ourselves and last but not the least our country? It's not asking for much, just a little care, love and ownership can bring in so many positive changes which will benefit all of us in return. Come on now people, join me and help me inspire people to start saving paper. Let's start somewhere! . Read Full PostComments

From the Blog White Sh@dow: Confused Society - Been trying to write something on the recent killing of Salman Taseer, Governor of Punjab,  but was out of words. Tried using a conventional method of grabbing a piece of paper and pen and sit at some quite place but nothing came to mind. I was just confused. I have no idea why. Was trying to be more selective with my words because i don't wanted to hurt any one's feelings as some thought i might did through my facebook statuses. But while browsing through some articles i found out these super stuff from Javed Chaudry, Anchor/Columnist of Express News, So thought of sharing it with you because this is how i am feeling right now. Same confusion and same questions. Subscribe to the comments for this post? Share this on Facebook title=”Tweet This!”>Tweet This! Post on Google Buzz Stumble upon something good?
