MY MAIDEN HUNDRED (STATS)
From the Blog GypSy: MY MAIDEN HUNDRED (STATS) - In Inzimam-ul-Haq's language, first of all, thanks to Mighty Allah, the boys played very well. Here, there were no boys playing well but I have achieved a milestone as a blogger. This is my hundredth post on my blog. However, I have played an inning which is slower in strike rate than Wajahtullah Wasti and Shoaib Muhammad. This post will be dedicated to my blogging experience and also to the limited audience I have on m blog. I started this blog in 2006 when blogging was not that 'cool' and 'in' like it is now. Naturally, I was also slow at blogging. Also, because if I got time to write back then, I would write travelogues and fiction novels. When I became more active on the blog, my travelogues and fiction novels suffered. For example, I started my latest novel THE LOSER around ten eleven months back and I have only written seven chapters so far. On the other hand, I have written 59 blog entries in the last eleven months. If I had given that time to my novel, it would be complete now. ARCHIVE Coming back to the blog, 2010 was my most productive year as a blogger with 60 posts. My previous best was 22 in 2009. A lot of credit goes to the freedom I had while being in Saudi. The most productive month was August 2010 when I ended up writing 9 entries. 82% of my blog entries have come in the last 12 months. LABELS Among the different blog labels I use on my blog, 25% are excerpts of my novels, 17% are based on films and theater, 15% are Eulogies I have written for several people I have come across in my life and 12% are travel stories. Rest is divided between humor, philosophy and cricket. TRAFFIC My blog has generated 5,495 views in total since its launch in 2006; however, 26% of those views have come in December 2010. Today, as I write, it has generated 69 of those views. Below is the geographical split of those viewers: USA – 23%Saudi Arabia – 21%Pakistan – 13%India – 11%UAE – 4% Others main countries from where people visit my blog are UK, Germany, Canada, Russia and Turkey etc. Interestingly, only 1% of the viewers read my blog on mobile devices. Maybe my audience is still the purists type. I am also thankful to http://www.pakistanibloggers.net which has resulted in highest number of referrals to my blog. My blog is also number one on their blog for the last five six months with a rating of 4.21 out of 5. POSTS Very surprisingly, the most popular post on the blog has been the movie review I wrote for a relatively low profile film Rakht Charitra . It has garnered 297 views. All top five posts in terms of views are from the movie reviews. It is understandable because movie reviews have higher probability of appearing in search engines. Among more personal posts, NOT WITHOUT HIS DAUGHTER 78 views, The Spiritual Journey 73 views, LOVE CANNOT BE PLASTERED 46 views, THE PERFECT NESTLE BRAND MANAGER 45 views and WHEN A PLANE CRASHES 42 views have been popular ones. I could not think of another way to celebrate my hundred posts. Kinda boring and numbers oriented but appropriate. Next such post will come when I hit my double hundred. . Read Full Post
People of Pakistan… You've shocked me.
From the Blog The True Perspective: People of Pakistan… You've shocked me. - RIP Salman Taseer. (Photo: Dawn.com) Salman Taseer, RIP. I now realize this country truly did not deserve you. At the cost of sounding like a “liberal”, I will have to agree with you. You were right when you said the blasphemy laws are abused, and you were right when you said they deserved to be amended. But you know what? You forgot you’re that rich party boy every Pakistani loves to bash and have a go at. They’re all hypocrites. You know what you were though? A non hypocrite. You know why I’m writing such a favorable post about you? Because I’ve just come back from a BBC show where I had been called to participate as a guest and where the anchor, his English guests, and all those people around the globe who were listening in and sending emails were completely baffled, and I guess quite alarmed by the way we, the Pakistanis, presented your death. The Editor of Pakistan Observer said he personally liked that you were killed. He said he had to answer God about his religiosity, and you sir were standing in the middle of it. A guy from Multan called in saying that he and his friends rejoiced at the news of your death, because you were immoral and had a loose character. People emailed in and said your stupidity got you killed. But you know what I find disgusting? You weren’t accused of blasphemy, nor did you commit it yet you were murdered for merely suggesting that the abuse that these laws are used for be checked. Sad reflection on our society. I know today that the world has no problem with Pakistan or Pakistanis. It is us Pakistanis who are diseased. As a human, how can anyone rejoice at the death of a fellow human? And then, how can you show off your elation to the world? It is sick, neigh, it is ghastly. I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard “learned” people proclaiming you deserved to die. Did you really? There were people from the US and other places saying this is the country that we tried to help when the floods came. They said they wouldn’t do it again. But you know what’s going to happen? These same Pakistani people will cry like whining babies when the US and other nations will refuse to help us in our time of need. These same hypocrites who say that it is “our Islam” and we are happy someone “ridiculing” it died will sob and protest when the US will say go feed yourself. I have realized it us who have isolated the world; not the other way round. Where is that tolerant society that Islam and Pakistan envisioned? When masqueraders of peace are in fact violence inciting barbarians, it isn’t hard to notice that the envisioned vision stands shattered. We needed someone who could call a spade, a spade. We needed someone who could stop hiding behind that curtain of Islam and accept what he was and who he was. Islam has been modified, sliced and changed. It is now a tool, which is used to protect murderers. It is but a shame on all of us. I don’t know what to say anymore, because I’m shocked. More shocked than your death I must say, because it is the attitude of the Pakistani population that has left me scratching my head. . Read Full Post
