The Difference

From the Blog GypSy: The Difference - When I first saw him, he looked like Viv Richards. I was quite he was going to be a batsman but when our captain lost the toss, he had the ball in his hands to open the bowling. On the other end, I was the one with a bat in my hands. Damien is six-foot-four. I am five-foot-eleven. Damien I am sure weighs two hundred pounds; I barely cross one hundred fifty. He is British and I am Pakistani and we were playing on an English wicket. Damien had been playing regular cricket and I picked a bat after sixteen months. Without even a touch of practice, I was on the crease and in a blink of an eye; I was back to the pavilion. "Hard luck." Said my captain. "you can't go on back foot with this bowler." "I didn't know." I took the pads off and sat on the bench cursing myself and Damien. It still remains a fact that Damien bowled a beauty. It pitched at least 18 inches outside off and hit the top of middle stump. My tentative footwork had the best of me but I doubt if anyone would have survived that one. "How many did you take?" I asked Damien after the inning. "Two. Were you the first one?" "Yeah. Including me. How much did that come in?" "That one came in quite a bit. Tough luck." And the conversation then moved on to the current cricket world. How England has become a force, what are the chances for India in the world cup and whether South Africa will choke again or not. "But on sub-continent wickets, you can never rule out Pakistan, Damien. You never know." "You Pakistanis." Damien burst out laughing. "you always think you have a chance. You have no chance this time around." "We had no chance in 1992, Damien." I replied with a soft smile. "And we defeated none other than England. Out of the fourteen players we had back then, three never played cricket afterwards. We won with only eleven players." "Yes, you did." Damien said emphatically and walked away. "But back then, you had Imran Khan and that made all the difference." That came straight from the horse's mouth. The difference was Imran Khan.   . Read Full PostComments

Vanessa Feltz 'bullied work experience girl to tears'

In fact she says that her week on Miss Feltz's radio show had been the worst. On top of it, she paid to be abused by this lady for a week. She used savings from her part-time job & this sounds pretty bad that you pay your hard earned money to get abused by someone at the workplace. The BBC is also investigating this abuse case by senior employees. 'Vanessa was really brash, not like the bubbly person you see on television, but in a rude and arrogant way. She barely acknowledged me, and when she did she said everything I had done was rubbish.' This shouldn't come as a surprise, cause celebrities usually turn out to be monsters. They are extra sweet on TV or radio, but in real life, they are very bitchy & abusive. However this Vanessa has taken over from Sarah Kennedy on BBC Radio early breakfast show. Anyhow, the worst incident happened when Vanessa asked her to write a 2000 word essay on Yeats & Nesbit thought it was a joke. However, the next day, madam asked for the essay & Nesbit told her that she didn't have access to a computer & she thought it was a joke. Vanessa was quite pissed off & told her that she could have gone to a library & then made Nesbit write that essay then & there. 'In the end I went to the toilet and just cried. I must have been in there for about two hours, texting my mum. I just wanted to go home…I couldn't believe how rude and horrible she had been. In the end a producer came and asked me if I was okay' said Nesbit. People go through far worse than this. There ought to be some check & balance on these senior people. They think they have the right to abuse juniors. And when they come across anyone who can reply back, they are in a state of shock. Everyone will not put up with shit. But then you have to resign after giving your piece of mind. . Read Full PostComments

What a sad pic!

From the Blog Speak Your Mind!!!: What a sad pic! - Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:”Table Normal”; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:”"; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:”Times New Roman”; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} You could clearly see sadness in the eyes of this poor dog. It's true we cannot help each & every animal in this world, but we can contribute little bit. Lately we did contact some organization abroad & that guy showed interest but he asked us to contact some Pakistani representative who would know more about the country & could help easily. Building a proper animal shelter is indeed a tough job. But we know vets who are willing to help & these vets know people who are willing to donate. What we need is some space. Anyhow, Pakistanis have no passion whatsoever. Every Pakistani representative gives us the email of another representative. Fine. You cannot move your ass. We get the picture. It's saddening that people are working in such organizations & they don't want to help out animals at all in their own country. Now we have to contact that other guy again. I also know some other people who try to help out animals, but even they say they are all alone in it. Either people do big talk or they give you emails of other people. How can you bring about a change with this kind of approach? A particular person for the past 3 years has been running from pillar to post & nothing has been done. This must be so depressing for her. You can only provide home to 30 or 40 animals in your house, but that's it. We can't accommodate hundreds of animals. In these so-called posh areas, they kill dogs just like that. And, for the most part, those dogs are not even dangerous. We used to give food to some dogs & puppies & they were all killed by these bastards. I wonder if there is an end to this madness. .
