Help in ending the mistreatment of Reindeers
From the Blog Speak Your Mind!!!: Help in ending the mistreatment of Reindeers - A recent WSPA video investigation has revealed that one of the holiday’s most popular symbols – the reindeer – is being subjected to immense suffering in large-scale round-ups and slaughter in Sweden and Finland. Our video footage may appear particularly disturbing, especially at this time of year, but it is a stark portrayal of the gruesome reality of the commercial reindeer meat trade: herds of panicked reindeer are rounded up, dragged and shoved onto trucks bound for slaughter. Along the way, they face further suffering from mistreatment, starvation and disease. Finally, those who make it to the slaughterhouse struggle and kick as they are killed with knives. This cruelty cannot be allowed to continue. Traditionally, reindeer husbandry, the act of raising reindeer for meat and hides, has been carried out in Sweden and Finland on a small scale for purposes of sustainability, with minimum distress to the animals. However, over the past several decades, the process has become largely commercial and has dramatically altered the way these gentle animals are treated. Visuals from our investigation detail the reindeer’s extreme suffering at every stage of the commercial process. It is clear that transport and slaughterhouse operators are in violation of existing legislation in Sweden and Finland, which explicitly state that no undue distress, pain or suffering be caused to animals. WSPA is calling for existing animal welfare laws in Sweden and Finland to be enforced, and we need your help: Please sign your name to our letter asking the Nordic Council of Ministers to uphold existing animal welfare laws to protect reindeer from this atrocious cruelty. Thank you for taking action and for your compassion for animals. . Read Full Post

The film was supposed to release much earlier. Now that only a few days remain for the film’s arrival on the big screen, its director Sudhir Mishra is indeed convinced that Neil was the best choice for the role. “When we first saw him, we knew that he was this young man who carried tremendous potential to do well in cinema,” gushes Sudhir Mishra who has brought to fore the true potential of actors like Kareena Kapoor , Shiney Ahuja and Chitrangda Singh before. Though in the interim period, Neil has made an impression with diverse films such as JOHNNY GADDAAR, NEW YORK, JAIL and LAFANGEY PARDINEY, commercially the young actor has seen a mixed run so far. Sudhir Mishra is quite hopeful though that yet again, Neil would be known for his true acting potential after audience sees him in TERA KYA HOGA JOHNY. “This is one film which will aid in further transformation for Neil,” promises Mishra, “He is a very good actor and all he needs is a platform to succeed. He has that hunger to do well and this film provides him ample opportunity to be seen in an interesting space. Wait and watch.” Also starring Soha Ali Khan, Kay Kay Menon, Karan Nath, Vijay Maurya, Virendra Saxena and Makrand Deshpande, TERA KYA HO GAYA JOHNY releases all over on 17th December. . Strange 'long-whiskered owl' spotted in Peru
From the Blog Speak Your Mind!!!: Strange 'long-whiskered owl' spotted in Peru - The bird-watchers spotted a long-whiskered owlet, a species first discovered in 1976 that has remained largely out of sight since. The tiny species, Xenoglaux loweryi , has long bristles around its beak, and delicate feathers that extend into whiskers. Its formal Latin name actually means “strange owl”. The long-whiskered owlet is listed as Endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, because of its very limited range of approximately 73 square miles. The bird’s habitat is restricted to cloud forests – moist, tropical forests characterised by frequent low cloud cover. . Read Full Post
