Abhi wishes Hrithik good luck for 'Agneepath'

From the Blog Speak Your Mind!!!: Abhi wishes Hrithik good luck for 'Agneepath' - Abhishek Bachchan is certain that it’s difficult to match the performance of his father Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Agneepath’, but he has high hopes from Hrithik Roshan who is playing the iconic Vijay Dinanath Chauhan in the cult film’s remake. The 1990 film fetched Amitabh his first National Award. “I wish him good luck. I think it’s a very brave thing to do. If you think of top 10 characters of Hindi cinema, Vijay Dinanath Chauhan is up there. It’s difficult but I have immense respect for Duggu (Hrithik) as an actor,” Abhishek said. “He knows his job very well. So, obviously, he will sort it out. He’s not going to take on anything on whim or fancy. I am pretty sure they have a different interpretation of the entire story altogether,” he added. Yash Johar produced the original ‘Agneepath’ and the remake would be produced and directed by his son Karan Johar. Abhishek feels that Big B’s film shouldn’t be remade frame by frame, as it would put huge pressure on the new actor. “I think with Paa, you should not remake his film directly scene by scene because he is too iconic an actor. I feel that for most iconic actors. I feel it becomes a huge burden for the new actor to do. If you have a different perspective on it, like I think when Shah Rukh Khan did ‘Don’, they had a completely different perspective of the original one,” Abhishek said. Abhishek rubbished all speculations that he was approached with the role before Hrithik. “I was never asked,” he clarified. I think the remake of Don was a total disaster & they are making another one. SRK just doesn’t have that stuff in him. The character of Don has been marred by Farhan Akhtar. Dev Anand didn’t allow people to play shit with his movie Guide & I guess that was the right approach. Even if certain things are changed, we expect too much & for the most people are disappointed with these remakes. And God knows why Abhishek is saying all this now. On Koffee with Karan, he wanted to give tips to Hrithik on acting & now Hrithik is the guy who can play that character so well. . Read Full PostComments

Blasphemy business in Pakistan

From the Blog That's Wrong!: Blasphemy business in Pakistan - The following incidents are true. Names and places have been changed to protect the identities of people involved. The house: Arif Masieh was well off by the middle class Pakistani standards. He had a large paultry form outside Sialkot, owned a big and expensive house and his children were studying in good universities. Every person in his house had his own car. Arif has been living in the house, built by his late father, for the last two decades. Rafique Jarral, who was a general councilor, also lived in the same locality. Like every councilor in Pakistan, he acted as tout between the people of his constituency and various government departments including police. Being a politician he was keen to keep a large public contact. He would be found on all those places where more than ten people of his locality gathered. He was the chief of local mosque's managing committee. He would distribute sweets to worshippers and decorate the mosque on important religious festivals. Rafique wanted Arif's house. Arif who was far more well off than Rafique had refused to sell his house to the councilor. The refusal developed into a grudge. The two neighbours once exchanged hot words in the street of the peaceful neighbourhood. The people of the locality were woken up the very next day with an announcement on the mosque's loud speaker. The local Imam was announcing that Rafique had seen Arif burning a copy of holy Quran (naoozbillah). Rest is history. Arif was hanged. His family left the city for good. Rafique now lives in the sprawling house. The shop  Jackson Maseih was a paper recycler in Nankana Sahib. He had a shop in the main bazaar. He would buy used notebooks, newspapers, magazines from people and later recycle them. Jacksan's business was spreading. His progress was enviably sensed by other traders in the bazaar. Jacksan considered him to be very careful in matters of religion. He had keen eyes to pick any book which was even remotely related to Islam. He had learnt it from his father Yousuf Maseih, who also used to run a paultry form. Yousuf would buy old Chinese newspapers, which are more expensive than Urdu or English newspapers, to spread them below the chicks to insulate the floor. Yousuf was illiterate. The logic behind using old Chinese newspaper was simple. Yousuf knew that Chinese didn't publish any Islamic or Chiristian religious verses in their newspapers. One day Jacksan found a text book of Islamiyat in a bundle of old newspapers. His eyes had picked the Arabic in it. He gave the book to his neighbourhood shopkeeper where three or four people were having tea. Jackson asked them that it's an Islamic book and that they should deal with it. The three returned the book to Jackson, saying its not Islamiyat. Jacksan placed the book over a large heap of old newspapers. After a few seconds, the three shopkeepers started shouting that Jacksan had disrespected the holy Quran. Rest is history. Jacksan too was hanged. The neighbourhood shopkeeper has acquired Jacksan's shop now. The fan following.  Sarfraz Butt was a learned person. He had remained in Saudi Arabia and was fluent with Arabic. His study room had a large collection of books on Islam. Every evening he would engage in religious debates with the people of his locality. He would often tell people of the locality that how Saudis behaved towards graves and tombs. Sarfraz was against the misuse of the local mosque's loud speaker. He had asked the prayer leader many times not to over-use the loud speaker. Sarfraz once complained about prayer leader's mis-use of the loud speaker to local police which warned the prayer leader not to disturb the people. The prayer leader's stance on graves and tombs was opposite to Sarfraz's. The prayer leader, who was a Sunni, was also annoyed of Sarfraz teaching wahabism to the local people. The inevitable happened. The prayer leader announced on the mosque's loudspeakers that Sarfraz had written a blasphemous phamplet about Holy Prophet (PBUH) (naoozbillah). The rest is history. Sarfraz was tried and found innocent against the blasphemy charges by the court. However, he was given seven years rigorous imprisonment for disturbing the religious hormony in the locality. Sarfraz's only daughter is getting old and depressed. No one is willing to marry the daughter of a person who committed blasphemy. The UK visa.  Pannu was sentenced to death by a court in Saiwal after he was charged for committing blasphemy. He had appealed against his death sentence in the high court. He was shifted to Gujranwala Jail after being sentenced by the Sahiwal court. He would disclose to his circle of friends that he intentionally committed the blasphemy just to get UK asylum for his two brothers who had gone to the UK on visit visa and were unable to settle in the UK, permanently. He knew about Christian non-government organisations (NGOs) who give legal aid to Christains in Pakistan and highlight their cause. He had arranged everything before intentionally committing the blasphemy. The enraged crowed torched his house. No one was in the house as Pannu had sent his family to some other village beforehand. Pannu's case got a lot of national and international media coverage, courtesy of the Christian NGOs. Pannu's brother got asylum in the UK and started sending money to Pakistan. Pannu relocated his family out of his home town into a better house built by the UK money. . Read Full PostComments
