It must have outlet, or it eats away the one in whom it is aroused.' How very true! You have to have a really open mind or human enough to digest such opinions. I've already written my views on Lady Chatterley's Lover, but yesterday I was going through certain passages that I marked few years ago. Sometimes we take time to understand the meaning & sometimes we notice things later on. This novel is based on the sexual awakening of a woman named Constance Chatterley. Incidentally, D. H. Lawrence said in the book, 'What the eye doesn't see & the mind doesn't know, doesn't exist.' This can be the case with countless people. In order to know you've got to experience something. I don't find the character of Mellors very fascinating. I don't look down on his class (I think Mellors is actually classless), but I believe tenderness was kind of missing in him. I really liked Rupert in Women in Love. Although he was confused about a couple of things, but he never sounded crude. He was a well-read guy & maybe that's why I like that character. This is what Mellors said & I know it's a problem, but I was thinking that you may not like it, if someone says it to you: 'All the darned women are like that. Either they don't go off at all, as if they were dead in there…or else they wait till a chap's really done, & then they start in to bring themselves off & a chap's got to hang on. I never had a woman yet who went off just at the same moment as I did.' Well there is nothing dirty in the novel. The writer has only tried to explore the nature of sexual love. Yeah at times he puts a lot of stress on sex that it completely blots out the entire universe. I don't think that healthy sex is the only ray of hope. And D. H. Lawrence also has a very typical view about the upper-class. 'Even the smartest aristocrats had really nothing positive of their own to hold, & their rule was really a farce, not rule at all. What was the point? It was all cold nonsense.' D. H. Lawrence is of course one of my favourite writers & for a long time I thought he was a sexy mind, but now I don't. I guess there is no such thing as a sexy mind. Anyway, this is the paragraph that triggered me yesterday to think over things & today I have scribbled something else on the blog: 'The world is supposed to be full of possibilities, but they narrow down to pretty few in most personal experience. There's lots of good fish in the sea…maybe…but the vast masses seem to be mackerel or herring, & if you're not mackerel or herring yourself, you are likely to find very few good fish in the sea.' Sometimes when you're not like the crowd, you find nothing. This is a really good book, but it's not that erotic or anything. And I couldn't help thinking about another character in Cakes & Ale; it's a book by Somerset. This particular woman used to have sex with anyone she liked & it was very natural for her. Although people used the word 'promiscuous' for her as they are content with few words that speak highly about their mental state but I don't think she should be called promiscuous or a slut for having that sort of nature. 'When she liked anyone it was quite natural for her to go to bed with him. She never thought twice about it. It was not vice; it wasn't lasciviousness; it was her nature. She gave herself as naturally as the sun gives heat or the flowers their perfume. It was a pleasure to her & she liked to give pleasure to others. It had no effect on her character; she remained sincere, unspoiled & artless.' Anyhow, in real life such people are judged very badly. In fact, one has the urge to puke how people distinguish between good & bad. Besmearing someone's character is more or less a fun thing for small minds. I've even heard such bizarre views like a virgin is as good as a slut; there's not much of a difference & they are both losers. You know just because you're not sick doesn't mean you're healthy. .
