From the Blog Pak1stanfirstcom - FIA arrests ex-DG Hajj on charges of corruption November 14th, 2010 ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested former Director General Hajj, Rao Shakeel and Trading Corporation of Pakistan's (TCP) Director Adil Mokhar on charges of corruption on Saturday. The two have been arrested on charges of embezzlement and financial irregularities. According to sources, Rao Shakeel will be taken to Islamabad where he will be presented in court on Monday for a remand. Sources also said that Adil Mokhar will be taken to Karachi. DG Hajj Rao Shakeel was called back over corruption charges of millions of rupees in the guise of purchasing buildings for pilgrims in Makkah. Most of the buildings purchased by the Hajj administrators are 5km away from Haram Sharif, while according to laws, the accommodation should not be more than 2km from away. The administration showed the rent of some buildings to be Saudi Riyal 3,600 ( maximum expenditure assigned by Hajj Policy 2010 for accommodation) while the actual fare was Saudi Riyal 2,500. Pilgrims who went for Hajj through the government scheme are facing immense problems due to lack of accommodation and unwillingness on the part of the administrators to provide any help.
