Rehearsed US, UK pincer attack fails to cow down Pakistan
From the Blog pakistanledger - Rehearsed US, UK pincer attack fails to cow down Pakistan October 30th, 2010 Image via Wikipedia Most Pakistanis know that the Wikileaks and the Cameron comments were well orchestrated, scripted and one, two punch attacks on the Pakistani military and the pride of the nation the ISI. The Times of India is reporting what is already known in intelligence circles in Pakistan “British PM David Cameron’s remark, that Pakistan exports terror, was calibrated and an outcome of strategy discussions between Cameron and US president Barack Obama in Washington just a week prior to UK PM ‘s visit to India, to impel Pakistan to give up…” Of course the atmosphere and the coaching of the Bharat cannot be ruled out. While Bharat was trying to make fake moves of peace with Pakistan, it was also trying to blacklist Pakistan. The TOI is reporting that “A source at 10, Downing Street confirmed that Obama and Cameron had discussed Pakistan during their talks in Washington a week before the latter’s visit to India.” The US is leaving Afghanistan after a catastrophic defeat–it has to create a flood of propaganda to justify why the Superpower was defeated. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was more nuanced in her criticism and she did not make the statements in Delhi. Pakistan’s harsh and predictable retort to Prime Minister Cameron has stung the entire UK establishment hard. Mr. Cameron is being criticized from the left and the right. The rookie Mr. Cameron has not learned how to diffuse the crisis. Political naivety forces him to stick to his guns. He has actually come down three notches in his criticism. Firstly he clarified that he was not talking about the government of Pakistan. Secondly he advised the media that a small portion of people are spreading terror. Thirdly it was clarified that he was not taling about the armed forces or the ISI. “There has been and still is a problem of terror groups in Pakistan that threaten other countries.” He added: “They also threaten our troops in Afghanistan, threaten India and threaten us; and they need to be dealt with.” The Pakistan High Commissioner in the UK, Shamsul Hasan, has been been disseminating the unusually aggressive comments about Cameron. In the past few days, the Pakistani government and the media has labeled the British PM as “ignorant”. The naming convention has kind of stuck to the British PM. A Senior Pakistani diplomat explained the Pakistani message in 'The Guardian’: “ We’ve to tell him (Cameron) what the reality is, to educate him about what we have suffered; and that if we are not supported now, things will get worse. “ If anything, the flow of debris from the UK and the US has hardened Pakistani attitudes. the trust level has gone down–and the lowering of trust inevitable results in reduced cooperation. Mr. Cameron faces internal criticism, and now may face a further radicalization of British youth in Bradford, Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham. The reaction from the National Assembly of Pakistan has been corrosive. ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Committee on National Security strongly criticised British Prime Minister David Cameron on Monday for accusing Pakistan of exporting terrorism during a speech he made last week to Indian business leaders in Bangalore. "Pakistan is not a state that exports terrorism, rather a victim of it. The uncalled-for remarks of the British prime minister are groundless and incorrect. "Mr Cameron or other powers do not have any empirical evidence to support such surmise," said Raza Rabbani , the chairman of the committee, while talking to reporters at the Parliament House after an in-camera meeting of the committee. He said that the committee was disappointed that the British PM did not even bother to calculate the diplomatic implications of such a statement. "The place where he gave the statement was inappropriate too, which adds more to the agonies of the nation that has become a victim of terrorism," he said, adding that Cameron should have realised that the number of deaths of Pakistani soldiers was higher than that of the allied forces fighting in Afghanistan. IHK: Rabbani said had Cameron been fair, he would have showed some courtesy by speaking about human rights violations in Indian-held Kashmir . He said during the four-hour long meeting of the committee, its 43-point recommendations were also discussed. "The Interior Ministry gave a detailed briefing on the current status of the committee's recommendations. However, we have asked the ministry to submit a written report so we have a solid document for our reference," Rabbani said. . Read Full Post
