This post is to share my experience with Telenor 3G on the very first day of commercial launch. 1st June, Telenor Pakistan announced commercial launch of 3G services, gives the tarrif out on the website and sends an SMS blast to all to sign up to a package, free trial is over. Pretty much excited, I was expecting speeds and reliability of the 3G connection to improve with the commercial launch, assuming the users will stop using the service the way they were during the free trial. So far, I’ve found myself to be wrong. Here are the findings. Speed Telenor 3G speeds have been similar since the day they launched the trial services. I was new then, not that I am not new now, considering how frequently I am asked “Are you new?”. But I was new then. It had only been 6 months that I was going to court, and I was still getting used to the life’s-on-the-drive, I had plunged into. It was still hard for me to get up early in the morn, fly to court, climb up and down in the court, for god knows how many times, wait for hrs for cases, stand for hrs with my boss to assist him and then to drive straight to office and burry my face in files and try to make sense of what I write in my drafts and then head home when the sun is a lot cooler and the day insist on being darker. That is, after it has been taken care of, watered at the right times, protected from storms and disease. It takes a lot,* a lot* of hard, long work to get to that first apple. Still there are no guarantees. But the apple tree has a capacity of producing fruit for well over 50 years. If taken care of, an apple tree can produce apples for a hundred years. Even more!
